Notes from the Owner:
I pursue a very uniform seat to seat experience where there isn’t a bad seat in the house. I have 6 people in my family, and we often vary seating position. I want every seat to be as good as possible compared to the next.
JBL CBT speakers have an incredibly uniform seat to seat sound based on the unique CBT design characteristics. (more even SPL coverage due to speaker shading/crossover attenuation and J-shape architecture (just like a professional concert J-Speaker array), and 150* horizontal dispersion) Eleven 18″ subwoofers have an incredible uniform seat to seat consistency based on quantity and attention to subwoofer placement and similar calibration.
Each seat has uniform tactile capability (Nearfield subwoofer for every seat, Buttkicker Advance, and free-air 8″ subwoofer pairs for every seat).
I strive to replicate very natural acoustic energy. I want lively bass and tactile feel, and require clean sound to THX reference volumes. I subjectively like my bass to be approximately 12-15dB hotter than my mains. I do not own eleven 18″s so I can try to hit 150dB SPL levels. That is uncomfortable to me, instead I have eleven subwoofers so that my preference for 130dB or less bass, and my nearfield tactile experience is very uniform and consistent seat to seat.
I’ll introduce my demo set with Dolby Atmos music, show you some of the music source material I’ve been enjoying lately, we’ll then likely move onto a few youtube videos that I think are specifically worth sharing, and then I’ll go through a new updated list of movie clips.
I’m happy to showcase the difference between the NZ500 and the QL3000 projectors. I’m happy to demo the different types of tactile devices; and what each individually brings to the table (time permitting). Most of our demo content will be at or near THX Reference volumes. You will not leave with sore ears, compliments of the JBL CBT professional audio speakers that are designed to playback at 120dB+ literally for hours on end, and so are quite clean and playing lazily at 105dB THX Reference peaks.
I’m happy to answer any questions you may have about my room and the various choices I have made.
Here is a quote from one of my previous MWAVE visitors, David Gage, owner of Deep Sea Sound (post 2501); which speaks to the experience the system offers.

Just want to say thanks again to Archaea for inviting me and my colleagues to his amazing home theater. It was an honor to be invited to his home and what I read about his theater and the comments I heard didn’t do it justice. The speakers sounded amazing and I was impressed by the JBL line arrays. The bass was perfectly calibrated with his mains, The Buttkickers and nearfield subs were integrated seamlessly and added a very nice effect. The projector was nice, bright, and detailed; amazing for the value. The demo clips were well-curated and showed off all aspects of his theater. I thoroughly enjoyed the theater and feel it is in the top 1% of home theaters in the world. Kansas City has some home theater nuts and they are glorious!

I went to this event last year and found it more useful to the typical HT enthusiast than something like CEDIA, which is aimed more at the trade than end users. I participated in a couple of blind listening tests which really opened my eyes (ears?) on how difficult it can be to distinguish between well designed products. Just got a new Tesla and this looks like a good excuse for a long road trip. Also, KC has some great BBQ.

I thought MWAVE 2024 was great. My wife and kid enjoyed it as much as I did. I didn’t expect that. Thanks for organizing and putting it on.

You hear about Dolby Atmos, you hear about base transducers, you see things like Mad VR, but to experience it is a whole another thing
