Visiting Kansas City

In town for MWAVE 2026? Make a trip of it — here’s the best of KC while you’re here.

Welcome

We can’t wait to see you

You’re invited to Kansas City! Whether it’s your first visit or your fifth, KC packs world-class barbecue, deep jazz history, killer museums, and some of the best home theaters anywhere into one friendly, wonderfully spread-out Midwestern city. Here are a dozen ways to make the most of your trip around MWAVE 2026.

Country Club Plaza
City Market

While You’re Here

Things to do in Kansas City

National WWI Museum and Memorial

National WWI Museum & Memorial

America’s official World War I museum, crowned by the Liberty Memorial tower. Ride to the top for the best skyline view in the city, then explore one of the most comprehensive WWI collections in the world.

Country Club Plaza

Country Club Plaza

The nation’s first suburban shopping district (opened 1922), styled after Seville, Spain — fountains, tilework, and towers around every corner. Great for a stroll, a nice dinner, and people-watching.

Power and Light District

Power & Light District

Downtown’s entertainment hub — the open-air KC Live! block is packed with bars, restaurants, and live music.

City Market (River Market)

City Market (River Market)

One of the Midwest’s largest farmers markets, plus the surprising Arabia Steamboat Museum and plenty of casual eats.

Union Station

A gorgeously restored 1914 rail station with Science City, traveling exhibits, films, and restaurants — connected to Crown Center by skywalk.

Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

World-class art, free admission, and the iconic giant shuttlecocks on the lawn. Don’t miss the glowing Bloch Building.

Kansas City Barbecue

The reason a lot of people fly in. Burnt ends are a KC invention — try Joe’s Kansas City, Q39, Gates, Arthur Bryant’s, or Jack Stack.

18th & Vine Jazz District

The historic heart of KC jazz. Visit the American Jazz Museum and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, then catch a live set at the Blue Room.

Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts

A stunning piece of architecture and home to the symphony, ballet, and opera — worth a look even from the outside.

Boulevard Brewing Co.

KC’s flagship craft brewery. Tour the facility and sample in the Tours & Rec beer hall.

Crown Center

Hallmark’s shopping-and-entertainment complex with SEA LIFE, LEGOLAND Discovery Center, seasonal ice skating, and the free Hallmark Visitors Center.

City of Fountains

KC has more fountains than any city outside Rome. Keep an eye out — and the free downtown streetcar makes hopping between sights in the core easy.

Getting Around

Rent a car — KC is spread out

Kansas City covers a lot of ground, and our venue at Unity Village sits southeast of downtown near Lee’s Summit. Rideshares add up fast over those distances, and many of the best spots are a good drive apart.

A rental car (or your own) gives you the freedom to grab burnt ends on one side of town and a theater tour on the other without watching a fare meter. The free downtown KC Streetcar is great once you’re in the core — but for the whole trip, four wheels win.

See You in September
